SOLBIATE OLONA (VA), 23 Sep 06.  After returning from operations in Afghanistan earlier this year, the family of 13 contributing nations from the NRDC-IT Headquarters proved they could unite just as successfully at this year’s International Day.
During his welcome address, the commander, Lieutenant General Mauro del Vecchio, invited all present to come together and enjoy the numerous attractions the day offered.
These began with a colourful spectacle provided by the Asti Medieval Banner Group, followed with an international buffet.  There was also a chance to sample the delights on offer at each of the national stands.
The aim is to provide an opportunity for all our staff, our families and friends to strengthen our bonds of friendship while having a really good day out, said the master of ceremonies, Lieutenant Colonel Riccardo Cristoni. As well as providing a chance for the local community to get to know us too.
This mission was certainly accomplished as the day continued with musical performances and folk exhibitions by local groups, culminating in a concert performed by the internationally acclaimed Sarah J Morris and Simona Bencini.
During its International Day 2006, the Headquarters proved it is every bit as united and determined to deliver at home as it is on military operations. This sentiment was certainly echoed by the former Mayor of Milan, the Honourable Gabriele Albertini MEP.  Having visited the HQ twice when deployed on ISAF 8 and taken part in the celebrations marking the return to Milan, he commented on the day I feel really close to these people.
