On the 2 October 2015, in the garden of the Officers’ Club of the Ugo Mara Base at Solbiate Olona, the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the reunification of Germany took place. Col Thomas Greggersen, the German Senior National Representative, welcomed the guest of honour, the General Consul of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Milan, Frau Jutta Wolke, the Commander of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy (NRDC-ITA), Lt. Gen. Riccardo Marchiò, and the other guests from the 12 NATO nations that contribute to NRDC-ITA. A string trio entertained the gathering with appropriate classical music, beautifully played. In a poignant speech, Col Greggersen highlighted that the Reunification of Germany was a peaceful transition for Germany, and that celebrating it together with all the allies from East and West in a NATO Headquarters has a special significance. Gen. Marchiò highlighted the extraordinary support Germany has given to NATO in its 60 years of  membership, acknowledging the great commitment of the current German contingent in NRDC-ITA.
Frau Wolke reminded all that at that time the Reunification of Germany was a sort of dream in which few Germans would have believed; being able to witness this event was something she had never expected. It was one of the happiest moments in German history. All those at today's event enjoyed the joyful atmosphere immensely and the camaraderie was clear, reaffirming community ties and the value of serving and living in a multinational environment.
