Solbiate Olona (VA), 13th May 2017 - A new and more inclusive edition of the Basic Life Support-Defibrillation (BLS-D) Course took place at the “Ugo MARA” Barracks. On the request of the Istituto Comprensivo Statale “A. MORO”, 20 teachers from nursery, elementary and middle school of the cities of Solbiate Olona and Gorla Maggiore (VA), have been admitted to this dedicated session of training.
Recently the Municipalities of Solbiate Olona and Gorla Maggiore provided school buildings with the Automated External Defibrillators (AED), and this “life-saving” course has given to teachers who attended the necessary knowledge to use this device so contributing to make the school a safer place.
After presenting the NRDC-Italy and its activities, Col. Michele TIRICO, Chief Med and Medical Advisor, remarked the aim of the course, which is making safer the places in which we all work and live, and how this specific session closes a cycle. Designed for our own personnel, this training has been also opened to serviceperson’s family members and now to civilians, both adults and teenagers. This activity also offers the opportunity for the local communities to benefit of the military presence and can be defined as a best practice when it is time to share knowledge and form new capabilities.
The BLS-D course is run by instructors from the medical staff of the HQ, who received their certification on December 2015, during a Basic Life Support – Defibrillation Instructor’s Course, organized and conducted by personnel from the "American Heart Association", an organization that is working on the reduction of the number of victims from heart disease since 1915.
The medical team of the “Ugo Mara” trained the attendees on a set of standardized and approved life-saving maneuvers to be performed in case of cardiac arrest (RCP), including the use of new devices, like the Automated External Defibrillators (AED) so giving the participants the necessary knowledge to provide a timely and effective help to all the people in need.
